Yamaha LS9 not playing nice with laptop

We have a Yamaha LS9 32 that's supposed to be able to be controlled remotely via a laptop. It does work with one of our computers, however not the one designated for the job.

If I drag one of the faders from within StudioManager, the same fader moves in the LS9, but very choppy, if at all. The opposite, moving a fader on the LS9 doesn't do a darn thing to the program. The "OFFLINE" button turns green for a fraction of a second if I hit it, then turn red again.

Any thoughts?

you have to re sync the two devices. During set up you will designate your midi ports for the board and pc. Then you will be able to move faders from the computer on the console. But you need to re synchronize the two so that the displays show the same thing. If you have scene built in the computer then sync console to computer, otherwise do the reverse. hope that helps.

edit: sorry there is a menu item for sync at the top of the studio manager screen.

The problem is not the sync of scenes itself (which I've never tried though), but the communication between the computer and the console.
Could the speed of the interface (10 or 100mbit) have any influence? Both the laptops (the one that do work and the one that doesn't) are Dells, with the one working being the older one. Incompability between the hardware in the computer and the LS9 perhaps, or is it just software settings?
