That's hilarious. I have often wondered how some of these quite high level guys find the time to post so prolifically (not being facetious).

And yes, this site has definitely heavily influenced me, as has the tape-op site. I've learned a huge amount just reading stuff randomly. Mostly I've learned that I know a lot less than I thought I did.

Gearslutz has not changed my life. It has defined the thoughts that other engineers have in their heads and made them available. Some of these thoughts are encouraging, but some are also uninspiring, I find some threads a waste of valuable time. But the good thing is that it's a place where engineers express themselves, sometimes I need that. I would love to get a lot of friends here, but I don't know anybody that is interested in smooth jazz or pop/R&B bands like Eternal or Hanson. Please PM if you find these music styles special...

If you call a small college education life-changing.

Between Gearslutz and my roommate/tech/mentor, I've learned so much it's off the charts.

hehehe...

but yes... you can learn a lot here... just have to filter out the crap...

but as we move more and more into the personal studio realm, forums for expressing your thoughts and learning about what the other guys are doing are a necessity, or else everybody is going to stay inside their own personal boxes.

where else could we find some info that´s available thanks to the human richness available here?

hardly read pro-audio magazines anymore.

Print is dead

No more paper cuts, recycling, lost information (post office), 3 month out of date delay, only 'good' reviews and worst of all, 'bought reviews'.

Yet here we have to contend with flame wars, unfiltered opinion (a good thing...most of the time), anonymous pimping

OTOH, it was nice to read a magazine, put it down and be down and done with it. Gearslutz has become a daily activity and the internet as a whole has been a great convenience that has kept me indoors, which is good since being in the studio didn't keep me in long enough

Talking with you guys online about $1k-per-channel preamps certainly goes over better than attempting the same conversation with my wife, which is what I used to have to do in the pre-internet days.

Long live Gearslutz!

I've gotten so much great information on this forum that I'd never imagined! So many talented engineers hear that has made this site my number 1 'go to' when I'm on the web. Reading posts from greats such as Michael Wagener, Mike Shipley, Andy Sneap (the list goes on and on) has truley openedup new insight to the way I record music. And keeping on top of the lastest in recording technology too is truly a godsend! I LOVE Gearslutz........cause I am one! heh

Yes. Now I publicly display my dorkitude more often than I should, and when I go to bed 20 minutes later than I intended, it's because I've been in front of a computer instead of a television.
