Gearslutz wisdom that I have gleaned from posters here has taught me that every piece of GS approved gear is unbelievably awesome for the first six months of its existence then becomes pretty good for six months then has issues at a year old and at two years is definitly not as good as the new cool piece that will be released next month, then goes into a long period of uncoolness to eventually emerge as vintage and cost twice what it cost new.

That kind of knowledge is life changing. Or not. But hey, where else can you talk about this stuff and have people actually listen? Or not.

It has indeed changed my life and has brought revelation...

All the gear I have sucks.
Most of the gear you all have rawks.
"Must have gear" is only "must have gear" for 6 months
500 series preamps/comps/eqs are the best thing since sliced bread.

Seriously, there has been a lot of great info on this board. Thanks to all those that share their knowledge freely. I only hope that some day my feeble skills can figure out compression!

That Cat rocks!

Mine is just lazy

...and he drinks all my beer while watching animal planet all night long.

He sleeps during the day.

Dunno for good or bad
Spendingwise yes, in right direction toward better gears.
Creativewise yes, but in wrong direction toward less music making.

Wise step would be to leave board one day.
If possible forever.

She wrote a new song about you and sent it to me, a couple of lines:

I was talking to myself
Suddenly, a man in his 30s thought I was talking to him
Suddenly, he started yelling at me, talking vulgar

When I first joined GS, there were only a few hundred members - now we have something like 33,000+ members..

Has it changed my life?

Nowadays, every time I post something it feels like a life changing experience, because the audience has grown so big- it's like being on stage.

Think about it- 33,000 Gearslutz and growing... that alone is pretty profound.

I was a homerecording.com guy. That place sucks the big one. Now I am a mix between gearslutz and tapeop. I dream of gearslutz but live in a tapeop reality.

So basically, punter here.

In 1982 when Jules was working behind some huge analog console and hitting to tape, having a full head of hair. Did he ever imagine that 20 years later he would have the largest audio forum on the internet. Millions of people to have access to other people from all over the world with audio knowledge and various level of experience communicating with others and sharing stories and advice. Did he ever imagine that audio technology would advance so far. Sitting in the studio in 1982, he glances at his timex watch, the only thing digital he probably knew. Did he ever imagine that some day their would be, he being a silly old man behind some color screen, laughing at how much he just sold, one of his old Neve1073's...

Its a wonderful community!

A real life numbing institute !
Not so sure about some of the racism that goes on in the non gear sections but then again, you get all sorts when you travel to the wrong part of town...

Love it !

It has removed the randomness from my constant wasting of funds on shiny boxes.

Now they are good, functional shiny boxes.

And it has provided an outlet wherein I can justify wasting hours a day to go with those lost funds.

However: I love it and the friends & acquaintances & enemies (not really) I have made here, and it has given me tools and knowledge to make much better music & recordings.

A Hui Hou!

If I put all the collective knowledge here to good use, I'd probably do amazing things!

Honestly, I've met some great people here and hope my input has also helped others.

The only downside is that I wish I had the time and resources to drop by and
visit some of the amazing studios covered in these forums.

I must've been reading this forum for about 2 years now.

It's certainly opened me up to lots of things! And so many familiar names now, even though I've never met any of 'em in real life... can I just say I love it here?

Good or bad, most of what I read on Gearslutz is at least entertaining - it's good to read everyone's opinions and then make your own mind up.

So... thanks to Jules for setting all this up and keeping us off the streets (or giving us something to look at when we've got some downtime).

Best regards to everyone.
