Does this exist? (500 series content)

Does anyone make a fader module that will drop into a 500 series lunchbox? Such a device would be a convenient way to attenuate a hot 512c...

not at the moment, their will be a few cool new item at AES i believe
but no matter i would simple get a ATTY ( http://www.adesignsaudio.com/ ) they rock!

If you're talking about a passive fader, it's about $13 for a 60mm fader, $10 for metal, $10 for pcb. Add it up and multiply by 3, looks like $100.
