Jazz

I also like the Verve recording of The Oscar Peterson Trio "Night Train" which sports a fantastic overall drum sound.

I also forgot to mention Bill Bruford, which is as distincive a sound as one's mother's voice...

Thanks for reminding me.

Mickey Curry-anything he did with Clearmountain engineering (Bryan Adams, Hall & Oates), especially the "Into The Fire" and "Big Bam Boom" records. Set the bar very high for the rest of us!

Shawn Colvin "A Few Small Repairs", great organic snare sounds. Clearmountain strikes again!

Pretty much anything Shipley has done, I think I like the snare on Ratt's "Detonator" record the best, great rock snare! Also that big, thick snare he got on AC/DC "Who Made Who".

What's your favorite snare sound?

I love the weakerthans but I'm from Detroit so I guess I'm close enough.

I really love the snare on Mastodon´s album Blood Mountain! The whole kit sounds amazing! And I have always loved the snare on Brave New World with Maiden.

What's your favorite snare sound?

Most of Steve Jordans snares are very cool sounding always in context of the song.

besides the obvious and already stated greats, I love the drums on Fleetwood Mac's "Hold Me". Also, pretty much anything thumbsupstikeBill Szymczykstikethumbsup did. Most notably his production with Joe Walsh and Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"

Also love the snare sounds on the first couple CCR records.

The Commitments, "I Can't Stand the Rain."
Kevin Killen, engineer.

The snare doesn't come in until the 9th bar of the song, and when it does, it's one of the great moments in recorded music history. If it doesn't make you reach for the knob and crank your monitors to enjoy the full glory of that snare sound, you're either deaf or unconscious.

BTW Maria Doyle Kennedy, who sang the song, plays the nanny on this season of "Dexter."

-Dave Grohl during intro of "My Hero" when the room mics are up

Yes! I love the drums in Rumours, kinda light and sensitive, but they sound big and full at the same time...

Outlandos D amour- The Police
the debut from the Police, love the snare sound, much heavier than all their succeeding ones.
It seems like Copeland tightened the snare more for the other ones, which is good as well.

I think the snare sound has a lot to do with the sound engineer's hard work than the drummer themselves..at least thats what Charley Watts used to say.
Steely Dan's - Two Against the nature has the tinnest sound ever!!!

Don´t know if I´m repeating (I wouldn´t be suprised if I was):

Mike Bordin´s snare on "Evidence". One deep thump to it...

There are more, but this one stands out at the moment.

wholeheartedly agree. Heavily processed but truly amazing.

I also love the snares in Psychocandy (Jesus and Mary Chain, engineered by John Loder) and in Steve Albini's work (I was recently listening to Wedding Present's Seamonsters, big thumping snare sound there)

Anything CLA or Jason Livermore has touched, thus Rise Against - Sufferer and the witness is probably my favourite..or the latest Green Day, CLA at his best.

RHCP - Californication
Refused - Shape of punk to come
Blink 182 - Take off your pants and jacket

Another cool one: Living Colour/"Middle man", mixed by Ed Stasium.
Every other snare hit is douled (handclaps?).
