will plugins work on mac?

If i have plugins that are for pc (.exe), how can I get them to work on my mac, they would then need to be .dmg?

windows software (and therefore plug-ins) won't work on OS X. .dmg denotes a Disk Image file, which is essentially a container for other files (kinda-sorta like a .zip file if you are familiar with those). you may have downloaded a plug-in that was packaged as a disk image (example: SomeCrazyPlugin.dmg) Double-click the file and a disk icon will appear on your desktop containing the plug-in, readme, etc. The two most commonly-used plug-in formats on OS X are VST and AudioUnits (AU).

VSTs go in
'/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST'

and Audio Units go in
'/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components'

(if you're using pro-tools plug-ins, they go in the '/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Digidesign' folder).

Keep in mind that not all programs are able to use both VST and AU plug-ins, so you should check to see what your software supports.

You might be able to get a VST to RTAS wrapper.
