Big Ben to slave RME - what to expect in detail ?

Hi, I theoretically think about getting a better master clock since some months and as we discuss Apogee here I'm interested in the to be expected details using BigBen / c777 as master wordclock in my case and for my setup.

so short facts about my setup:

Apple G5 2,0Ghz with RME HammefallDSP multiface also connected to a RME ADI8Pro via litepipe, I use LogicPro and work in 44,1KHz, I track real synths and use AU/VST synths/samplers as well.
Since about one month all available 16 outputs are summed analog - I did this to get back missed sonic details & definition (I got a DB2 to sum outs)
doing this is now a great plus at mixdown of my music (which is basically electronic club stuff, very underground ;-).

So as definition is way better allready now due to summing - is an high end Wordclock like BigBen still necessary for me ?
Please keep in mind I do elecronic - not accoustic the computer is my main instrument and if I'd can clock it may sound better...

Question for the 'clocking' experts: what in detail can I expect in reality from BigBen for my workings ? - as I figured out by reading the BigBen manual I will just use two of its WC outs to slave 2 RME boxes and sure don't use all other great features of BigBen.
Isn't it a bit to big for my setup ?
Is there a cheaper way to get C777 clock from appogee with a smaller device?

If anyone still recomends to go BB in my case I'd consider to get a big Ben loaned from a dealer to check for myself.

thanks in advance to all GS

OK I currently have loaned an Apogee Big Ben Masterlock device and wordclock
slave my HDSP Multiface to it.

When listening to various material using Apogee as masterclock there
sometimes seems bit more detail to be heard, but this effect is very, very
when switching back to RME as masterclock it doesn't degarde anything
all ist still sounding fine:-)

now I record some sound ambiences in LogicPro 6.41 created by EXS sine
wave going into a convolution reverb with Spacedesigner (this process must
be every time 100% equal each playpack as no signal modulation happens, so
every time playback is sample accurate to a previous playback recorded -
right !?).

I do the signal recording via Multiface (MF) analog out -> its analog in
and set Masterclock in RMEsettings to AutoSync mode (means MF slaved to
Apogee BigBen)

1. I record signal DA->AD with Apogge as master
2. I record same signal again but this time RME is Master (no sync to Apogee)
3. allign both recordings on two channel
4. phase invert one of those channels

result: signals totally phase-cancling out each other (seem sample sample

5. while playback both recordings I change masterclock from RME-> Apogee,
no differnce, signals still cancling out (re-checked this few times)

My question now is:
where do I have to expect the apogee C777 clock jumping into the game?

Can someone tell me more about this - any ideas what I should check here in more detail?

On my previous tests when I recorded signals and compared them, the choosen masterclock was same for AD and DA so either Apogee or RME as master isn't that important while recording the summed 16 outputs to a stereo input again.

But while listening to any material clocked via BigBen I can see an improvement in my setup.
On further tests (recording comparing signals to DAT, etc. ) I realy liked what BigBen does in therms of overall detail, smoothness and space it adds to my system.

RME is not that bad with internal clocking that must be said as well, the Apogee BigBen used as masterclock gives somehow that little bit more prescision as someone would expect by it's specs and companys reputation.

Sad I have to bring the BigBen back to my audio dealer by tomorrow...
