I’d like a weighted stand that will allow me to place a large diaphragm condenser upside down on a boom for vocalists (or drums) but that can also be collapsed and folder up so it doesn’t take up a lot of space. Are these just incompatible desires or is there something good out there? TIA.

Latchlake 1100. Just got one a few weeks ago. It's absurdly strong, with changeable counterweights and folds up to roughly regular tripod stand size. Not cheap but very very worth it.

More love for the Latchlake 1100. I picked up a few used Xtra Booms a few months ago and they are a fantastic addition.

Got the Latch Lake. It’s great and nicely designed.

Another somewhat budget fix would be a standard folding stand with a sandbag on the legs and this:

Atlas also makes counterweighs but you need the right size for the shaft of the boom arm.

Sandbags of a couple different sizes can often be useful items to have around.

Nice, you made the right choice. It's costly, but there's nothing else out there that's better.
