Repairing My Studio Monitors - Need Help Diagnosing

Hi Everyone.

I've got a pair of Event Project Studio 8. Not the best in the world, but they'll certainly get the job done until I can afford a substantial upgrade.

But anyway, I'm having an issue with one of them. On lower notes it sounds scratchy, crackling, etc... But, when I push slightly on the any of the outer edges of the cone the problem seems to vanish.

My first thought was that the voice coil may be rubbing. rubbing. I took the woofer out and played around with it a bit. I pushed the cone in and out to see if I could hear or feel any scratching.... but absolutely nothing. Seems to be perfectly fine when I do that.

So I inspected the whole thing for cracks or cuts.... nothing.

Do any of y'all have any ideas of what could be creating this noise?
