Discuss Mixing Ideology with Headphones

question 1
Ex:
HD650 is bass heavy ,high dull
HD600 is bass light, high open

So if we mix with HD600
When we balance the frequency
We will get a BASS HEAVY, HIGH DULL result

With HD650
We will get BASS LIGHT, HIGH SHINING result

Is this right?

question 2:

is the compensation of the BASS RAISING on HD600 will be fitting
Or generally the compensation will be too much for most engineers

My feeling about all that is...

• There's no such thing as headphones I can mix on. Emphasis on "I".

• I prefer speakers to track, but if I'm getting paid then When In Rome. By this time I've done it enough that I can eyeball most of it.

• I can arrange and edit with headphones.

• I can overdub stuff that's a known quantity, e.g. "this rompler patch through this pre with this much compression will get me something I know."

• I can automate a ballpark-mix with headphones -- get balances and eq's and fx levels in the neighborhood.

• I need speakers to get the tones and balances and bus compression right.

• Once I've got that, I can go back to headphones if necessary for client changes edits, structure altering, etc.
