old AKG mic w/DIN-connector question

Hi there!

I got my hands on another, not-so-famous mic.
It's an AKG D11L-HL, luxury model, complete with wooden (teak) mic body, desktop stand and a plastic thingy that slides on and lets you change the polar pattern from cardioid to super- and hypercardioid.
Looks brand new, original packaging, brochure and all.
(BTW: anyone know this mic and wanna share their experiences with it?)

Anyway, I want to use the thing, not just look at it.
So I'm going to desecrate it by hooking up an XLR instead of the 3-pin DIN.
Obviously, the ground (pin 2 on the DIN) will go to pin 1 on the XLR, but what about the others?
According to the brochure, the impedance between 1/white and 2/gnd is "Hi", while between 2 and 3/blue it is "500" (probably Ohms).
Apparently, this mic was supposed to offer 2 different output impedances, and 500 would seem the best for interfacing with modern studio equipment.
But where do I connect pin 3 on the XLR???

Any ideas?

Hi there,

The 500 ohm variant should be the correct one in deed.

Here's how I'd wire it up:

DIN Pin 2 => XLR Pin 1 and link to Pin 3
DIN Pin 3 => XLR Pin 2

I have built adaptors for a bunch of older Beyer dynamics that were also dual impedance, and it worked like a charm this way.

Cheers

Thanks, I'll try that.thumbsup
About the 3rd wire (DIN pin1): just insulate the end and not connect it anywhere?
