Please recommend a mic for baritones

I quite like the sound of Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean.

Could people recommend some microphones? Mid-range budget (but I'd like to know what high end gear they use too)

Positioning how far away from the mic is recommended?

Are pre-amps necessary? I have a fireface 800

For a baritone, get a mxl v67g or v67i, then get a trident 80b channel strip :D.

Here are some of the mics I've used and recorded with my baritone that I have liked in order of preference:

Neumann U67
AEA44
Horch RMJ2
Gefell 563/M7
Beesneez Arabella
Stager SR3
Shure SM7b

I could use any of those and make a recording that is only limited by my marginal talent and engineering skills.

As far away or as close as needed.

Yes, a preamp is required.

Swafford, you are being more than modest! You are a very gifted singer and musician.

Having said that, the 44 is "The King" for me. The U47 the "Crown Prince". (on Baritones)
Plenty of other wonderful microphones for us Baritones though.

Longspring, what is your budget? How treated is your recording area? That'll affect your choices...
Chris

P.S. On the cheap IMHO, the Oktava 219 and 319 are excellent-If you're into "vintage tone"-like me-And if it's a "smooth"
Baritone voice.

But Bing (44) and Frank (U47) did...

Kidding with you dee-I know you're very knowledgeable!

One idea BTW, is to get a nice/used Warm WA-47, then... Send it off to Chad at Signal Arts, for hot rodding.
He helped design it for Warm BTW. The stock WA-47, also works very well on my voice FWIW-But I have faith
in Chad.

Below is me acapella, on my stock 319.
Song is from the new "Star Is Born" movie.

BLUE Mouse on a moderate budget sounds great. It will bring things a little forward but is a great all around mic. Up from there check out the Chandler LTD TG mic which has a variety of settings for a lot of versatility.

I just watched this video

comparing
SM7B,
AKG C414 XLS,
Mojave Audio MA-301fet

I liked the SM7B of the 3. Would you guys agree, or is my ear not trained enough?

Do you have any audio clips, of your voice?
