SSL Bus Compressor on Channel

Have any of you ever [successfuly] used an SSL bus compressor on individual channels ?

(Instead of just on master bus)

I like the Alan Smart C2 as a tracking comp on kick/snare, bass, vocals, room mics and piano.

I have tried (Duende plug) and did not like the results vs. using the SSL channel compressor. The SSL channel compressor is fantastic when you don't want a dark color from the compression.

Yeah for sure. It works great. They make a mono version too.

In a DAW there is no difference between an insert and a buss as far as sound. It's different on a console. Not to mention SSL consoles only came with a couple/few buss compressors depending on the format/configuration of the desk. Their channel comps were just ok, the buss comp was THE sound.

+ With a DAW you can insert as many plugins on as many channels as you want at no extra cost. On a console you can't do that. It's what ever is in the console or you have to pay extra. Or you have to use outboard and that is expensive as well.

So Yeah use it on an insert you like the sound. It is going to sound the same as it does on a buss if it is not used in a true parallel configuration. In a DAW a group track, buss, channel are virtually all the same. With a "buss" comp plugin, it's true coolness is when it is used in parallel however. So you will not get that full sound on an insert.
