Royalty % Question

hello guys,
this a little embarassing question, I've managed to get one of my songs into a movie soundtrack so the record company is offering a 15% royalty (apparently the song is going to be one of the main singles) and I wanted to run it past you guys...

is it a good enough deal ?

thanks...

need more details....

who wrote the song
who performed the song

did you deliver a master to them unsigned

is there a publishing company and record company involved

if it's for publishing, 15% is very low/robbery
50% would be the lowest fair deal.
They should do an admin deal for 15-25%(giving you 85-75%)

and most of all, get a entertainment lawyer now, PM me if you want advice. Find one in NewYork, LA, or Nashville if you are in the states...

you have to pick the middle of the line of not getting black listed and getting a fair deal, considering how much experience/success you've had

hey thanks for the reply,

"who wrote the song"

a friend and I did the rights were split 50/50

"who performed the song"

my friend did the singing, i played and programmed everything else

"did you deliver a master to them unsigned"

no

"is there a publishing company and record company involved"

yes, the publishing deal they are offering us is a 70/30 split, the 15 % i mentioned earlier is a sales split

also, 15% of what ??? 15 can be a lot and nothing. Too little information to give you valuable information. I would suggest you have it checked by a music business lawyer or at least have someone in your surroundings who has experience with royalties look into the contract.

it is a net sales percentage, sorry if i wasn't clear, its a 15/85 net sales split, 15 % for us

i've emailed the contract to my attorney but i still wanted to read some opinions...
