No worries, I thought I had to post it. I haven't got a CAPI module to test though, I'm not sure if your issue is a bad chassis, or another compatibility problem. I definitely don't have the reported issue with Pentode.

now things are getting interesting.
how is it possible that one has a Lundahl output transformer, while the other one has a Vigortronix mic input transformer inside ???
also, some of the caps, resistors and diodes are in different positions.

Maybe one is before (Lundahl) and the other after the price drop?

Or the Lundahl one has been modified?

It looks like it could be a later revision (D>C).

The one with the Luhndal has been modded. Most of the iron on these low price pres like these Midas and the Alctron are not that great and ring (from what Ive been told). Changing the transformer in them to something that performs better is the most common mod I've seen on these. (the 2nd most common one I've seen on the Alctron is the Tantalum Cap upgrade though that pre isnt based on the right transistors to get the 73 sound)

Whatever they are, they are not midas brand like those on KT gear. So, midas transformers are not in use in midas gear?

I haven't opened my 502 or 512 but they say "Midas Transformers" on the spec sheet.

Bringing this thread back for the 522. Realized Sweetwater has a 48month financing back for this week and I need a hardware limiter that's a serious limiter, no transient left behind. The 522 caught my eye because the knob lists 0.1 msec attack time (?!). @ Ngr says the noise floor is terrible. Anyone else have similar experience with the 522? And is the attack time actually seem that fast in practice? The price is suspicious, and I do have historically bad experiences with anything Behringer.

These are similar to the old OEP transformers I am told that some former employees split off to make these like the old ones, when OEP was changing.

what?
you were told that these are similar to the older OEP transformers?
or
you were told that (who's?) former employees are now doing (VTX i guess) transformers that sound like the old OEP's ?
sorry, i am confused.

I was afraid of that when I was typing

I don't know the full details,

but I was told that OEP was making some changes.

Some people branched off to form VTX or Vigortronix

they wanted to keep making some of the "classic" "OEP style" transformers, but now branded as VTX.

I think they are all made in China.

There's a thread on GroupDIY where people are really dishing up about it if you want to dig into the details more deeply.

So, hopefully, it's a decent transformer. Mine sounds good.

There was a picture a while ago of a Midas 500 with a Lundahl transformer. I wonder if the original $800 units may have used the Lundahl? That would be a big reason for the price drop.

The VTX parts only cost a few bucks, much more affordable.

I am using the preamp for 6 months and they are clean and quite. Regarding HRK L6 review I would only say he is exaggerating. Don't have anything to add and what RIF said in post #40 is sufficient.

About the compressor, I've ordered one very recently from Thomann. I have opened it, to check, and was happy to see a Lundahl.
So this is not a myth. They do come with a Lundahl from the factory.
