Lots of hit records had vocals tracked with a 47fet.

Cyndi Lauper’s breakout record She’s So Unusual comes to mind, Aretha’s Who’s Zoomin Who album.

Just a couple off the top of my head, shouldn’t be a problem finding a hundred more.

You know it's a 21st century recording when the signal chain for the kick drum is twice as expensive as the chain for the lead vocal.

I don't think anything comes close to the original km84, mine is a pre berlin wall one, sounds amazing from 1983, original capsule and electronics, my favourite SDC mic, I need a few more of them.

I feel your ambivalence and get it. There are plenty of mics that have more wow factor by default.

That said...a u47fet is imminently mixable. The capsule is very balanced sounding, it can take level well, and you can track with it pretty willy nilly and not paint yourself into too much of a corner. They are also built like a tank. Some mic preamp combos with it are a bit magical too. Any of the Siemens/telefunken/tab v series related tube preamps really vibe well with them.

And, coincidentally, John's singing a song about Toledo there.
(Last track, side one.)

Heiserman H47 FET and Bock iFet, are two of the best LDC's on me. Not sure if I'll absolutely have to get a tube version 47 style LDC...

So the KM84 has a bump in the <200 Herts which most people will Hi Pass anyways.
The KM184 has a 10k Hz bump, which you can tame via a good FabFilter EQ.

If you can't make a KM184 work for you, there are other fields you might be talented in...
