DSP: what is it?

i keep seeing it being discussed but have yet to read a definition.

it seems to be common...do i have it?

DSP stands for Digital Signal Processing. It usually refers to pro tools and how many cards you have in your system.

DSP isn't just in Pro Tools or a DAW. It also refers to external effects boxes, anything from an Eventide to a Midiverb 1. I've even seen it built into surround sound recievers. So yeah, you probably have some somewhere.
