Monitor Help...

Hello Everyone...

I have a home studio and I will be buying new monitors very soon... I have nowhere to go and AB monitors myself so I was hoping some of you may have some advise for me. The room I am working in is medium sized and completely untreated.

I have been using dynaudio´s bm 10 for two years, but now the tweeter has blown and I want to upgrade to active monitors. I have heard good things about dynaudio bm 5a, bm 6a, and adems monitors.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have...

monitoring is a completely subjective thing.
i nor anyone else can tell you which monitors you will prefer.

having said this, there are many good choices available:
  • ADAM Audio
  • ATC Loudspeakers
  • Barefoot Sound
  • Dynaudio Acoustics
  • Focal Professional
  • Genelec
  • Klein + Hummel
  • PMC Loudspeakers
  • ProAc Loudspeakers
  • Tannoy
  • .....and many others.....

what is your budget and room size and we can begin to discuss what might be viable?

cheers.

i think you are on the right track with the Dynaudio BM6As.
there is a new version of this monitor, the BM6A mkII, but i don't know anyone who has used them yet.

check out Dynaudio's website for details on this:
http://www.dynaudioacoustics.com/

another good choice might be the Focal SM6 series:
http://www.focalprofessional.com/en/.../SM6-home.html

or possibly something like a Genelec 8040a:
http://www.genelecusa.com/products/8040a/8040a.php

i don't know which of these you would prefer but they are all good monitors.
perhaps do a search here or look around at other threads; there are a lot of opinions on what monitors are the best to mix with, and people certainly have their favourites.

edit: i have never listened to Focals; the recommendation is based on response from other users....

cheers.
