Any Good Compressors in the $7-1000 Range?

Seems like all the good compressor's are a little over a thousand dollars or more. There are so many brands today, am I missing something good for under a thousand dollars?

Already know about RNC, and TLA 50.

A DBX 160VU is an awsome compressor if you can find one. They usually run anywhere from $800-$1000 for a single channel.

I like the DBX 160 on bass guitar.
But I wouldn't use one on anything much ELSE except in those instances when I want something to sound obviously overcompressed.

you might find a used Daking for about 1,000.
and that's lightyears better and more useful than a DBX 160.

Thanks for the help. Forgot to say that this was only for vocals. And isn't dbx still selling the 160 in some version, the A I believe for $399 or something? How is this unit?
