Outboard Pre - Monitoring

I don't want to monitor thru Nuendo, but rather thru my console (D&R Cinemix) like I always do.
How do you guys patch your pres? A mult from the patchbay?
Appreciate any comments.....

Is there a reason you don't want to monitor Nuendo? You should really want to listen to the AD/DA process to ensure that nothing is distorting. Or am I missing something?

The reason? I find 'direct monitoring' a pita to use. It's so much easier to monitor thru the console. Not to mention the latency......
As for input levels, my console's output levels match exactly Nuendo's input meters. So all level controls are done at the console, not in Nuendo....

I just figured out what I think is the best way to patch the mic pre:
Multing from the console's patchbay:
1 - to ch line in (for monitoring)
2 - to ch tape in (for recording)

As always, I'm open to suggestions, thanks!

screw direct monitoring if you have a console.

I have my mics plugged into my wall box... Wall box to my patcbay as mic source... Patch mic source into preamp, preamp into tape ins.

Then I monitor from the tape ins/lineout via 2mix
