INFO: Barry White’s Vocal Mic

Any information on Barry White’s Vocal Mic & chain?

Write whatever you know!

*********The only microphone I’ve heard of was a Neumann U67

That's pretty funny, because I recorded Barry a few times and I also used a U67 (my choice, not his). I sent mine through a Neve 1073 and let me tell you, it sounded like GOD was in the room. I'd never heard such a rich, deep voice. It almost jumped out of the speakers at you.

But the real deal with Barry was his voice, NOT the vocal chain. I honestly think you could have thrown up almost anything and gotten that tone. It was his voice. I've never heard another one like it.

Plus, I liked the man. Fun to work with.

FWIW,

I can't recall the article - I think it was in Mix awhile back, but they used a stock 451/CK-1...

I agree tho - damn near anything in front of his pipes should work!

Hope this helps,

I agree, it's aaaalllllllll in the voice. Reminds me of a Barry White / LO voiceover recording of outakes that was circulating around a few years ago. LOL! What a funny guy.

Wow...! This must have been a great honor to work with Barry!... ..I'm going to say this and I'm not lying. My first child was concieved listening to his music!.. .. Just something was magical about his songs and voice. Even if you were mad with your other half, just put on his music and BINGO.....!......heh

I seriously doubt anyone would question the veracity of this statement.

Indeed he was a good bloke! Out of curiosity which mic did he prefer or asked to use if you remember?

Thanks for clearing up the U67 up for me.
