API A2D Input

The rear panel of the API A2D has XLR mic inputs.

Are these XLR inputs for both mic and line sources?

That is, if I have 1/4"jack from my guitar I gotta have a 1/4" > XLR cable to get it into the A2D?

Thanks.

Not so fast there ... I would expect those line inputs on the front would be consumer line level inputs - e.g. keyboards, CD players.

I would be surprised if they would be suitable for a guitar Instrument level - unless you are running active pickups.

What you really need is a good DI box - which gives your guitar a nice high impedance load that doesn't strangle the pickups like a low-z mic input would do. The DI box also drops the level down to mic level, so you don't distort you mic input.

I'll know for sure in an hour or two - I just picked up my API A2D from FedEx at the airport, and i'm spinning my wheels here at work before I can go home and play with it.

I bought some Radial JDI DI boxes so I can interface instruments with my various preamps and converters. There are pro's and con's between passive and active - but I like the simplicity and true isolation of passive, and I like what transformer do to sound.

True kiwiburger.

I was a little light on my purposes.

I will actually only be using the front line level inputs for keys.

I'll be micing an amp and running that (mic signal) into the API.

I got lazy in my post.

Good lookin' though!

Hey, let us all know your impression of the API A2D.

Thanks

hey , and don't them api 312'ish mic pres bypass the 2520 on the input when you use the 1/4" DI input?

kiwib's suggestion of the DI box to hit the back will get you full api love if this is true.

even though I think the front inputs on the api 3124 sound all right when I have to use themheh
