Real Fucin Problem *Motif ES7*

I have a Motif ES7.
I usually use memory cards to save work.
I have 2 Cards right now.

The problem is sometimes by mistake I can erase the whole Memory card.

This has happened twice to me.
When I start the keyboard up, Im supposed to load up the memory card...But the save and load button are right next to each other and instead of loading the card up I save what is currently on the keyboard which is a bunch of demo's.

This time it REALLY got me, damn Days of work...Gone.

Does anyone know a better way to save the work.
Maybe saving the memory card to a computer???

If you are using any kind of MIDI sequencer or DAW program on your computer you should be able to transfer all of the patches from your synth to your PC over the MIDI cable that connects the synth to the PC and save all the patches within the sequencer / DAW program. It's called a Sysex dump and it's pretty simple to do in most programs. Then you can reverse the process to dump them from the PC back into the synth. Check the index in your manual for Sysex Dump.

I looked in the index of the manual and I found nothing on SysEx...Can you tell me what I need.

I do have a Midi cable but how do I hook the keyboard to my comp?
What programs do I need?

Fellow Motif ES7 owner here!

While SysEx might work, you would probably be better of using Yamaha's powerful PC/Mac software tools (using the on-board Motif USB connection in conjunction with your computer). You can download Yamaha's tools here:

You can also find great Yamaha Motif support here:

Good luck!

Synth80 is right. My post said "If you are using any kind of MIDI sequencer or DAW program on your computer...." and it sounds like you aren't using any midi sequencer or DAW program. Adding all of that to your setup just to allow you to do a sysex dump from your synth to the PC would be overkill.

BTW for future reference the formal name for sysex is "System Exclusive". If you need to look up something on sysex in the future try looking under that term also.

Oh yea, I think it had System Exclusive somewhere in the the Index.
But while I was looking thru the Manual I read another way to back up memory.

Ima use one of those removable hardrives to save everything in.
But damn, its gonna take weeks to have all the beats again....

Anyways Thanks!
