I bought one of those many years ago when I was on a budget.
I brought it back to the local store because I thought it was broken.
They exchanged it and the replacement sounded just as bad.
I brought that one back and exchanged it for a dbx 266 which is no shining star but at least sounds reasonable for what it cost.

Man..... badder than a 266. That's one Bad-A$$ piece. I think of all the records I've heard and seen done that were ruined by overcompression from 1176's, 33609's...... IMAGINE HOW MUCH BADDER THEY COULD HAVE SOUNDED WITH A 3630! Oh, regrets!!!

I think the 3630 sounds better than the 266 IMO. 266 is just plain mud!

It's actually a "mastering" compressor.

Bump!

This dude has invented analog Finalizer 48k, as he says in the video!!! And working better than original TC device. His "Finalizer" consists of six 3630 and dbx crossover.

Will need to show this video to my russian colleagues. Their asses will fly off of their chairs in shock!

I knew that in Russia there is hefty inventive people, but not so crazy!

If you've never mixed russian polka then I'm not sure you're really qualified to speak on the mastering capabilities of 6 chained 3630s.

I can't believe this thread has become so long. The 3630 is the second to worst compressor I have ever experienced. The worst was one I built from an electronics magazine design when I was 16 and monetarily challenged. Love the TIC comments.

Dude, are you serious?? I use the 3630 on Everything! Literally everything. Vocals? Onit! Omelette? Onit! Buried corpse? Sprinkle some on and.... Voila! No smell! It's amazing!

Are you sure you're really from Russia? Were you born there? Maybe adopted or something? Cause every audio guy I met in Moscow drank like a fish....

<<<ha ha just kidding bro, but the drinking part is/was true, although at the time I was there, the 3630 was WAY too expensive to employ in their otherwise high end signal chains....>>>

As we say in Russia: beer without vodka - is an unaffordable waste of money!
I confess, I did it when I got my SMC-2b

I know many colleagues who do not drink alcohol.
Alcohol damages reason and washes away prospects.

I know. But seriously, all the audio guys I worked there with seemed to be drinking all the time. It was a different era though....

I agree with you though, too much vodka =

For anyone that can't afford the real deal,

Reverse the input and outputs of a distresser, turn the input knob all the way up 20:1 ratio and select distortion three, then change the voltage selector on the back of the unit. And you will have the secret 3630 setting
