workhorse mic dilemma

Hi everyone, new to the forums. I am planning on spending some holiday cash on a new mic for my project studio. Spending around 200$ on a mic is kind of a big deal for my budget so i was wondering whether to go for the Rode NT-1a or the Sennheiser e906. I'm looking to get better guitar sounds overall, but i need a mic that can do the most things the best, ala- workhorse. any suggestions?

an SM57 might be a good choice and it's less than $100. don't be fooled by its low price. it sounds good on vocals, snare, and guitar in my experience.

out of the two you mentioned i only am familiar with the NT-1A and it sounds a bit thin to me but YMMV. i think the Shure is a good bet.

cheers

For $200, the Kel HM-1 is in your range. For a general purpose mic that works well on amps or stringed instruments the EV N/D 468 is a solid choice.

While not a great choice for loud amps (unless you have a big, good sounding room) the AT3031 is a decent workhorse.
