Not yet, but earlier tried my old Beta 58 on the same amp, same guitar, same speaker,
Hot Cat 100R overdrive channel. Also tried another clean test with the AKG D-1000 just hanging there,
I think the TAB 57 will do just fine!

Patience Grasshopper :-)

Will do another clip asap.

Clean to rage just on the guitar volume knob.

I find mic choice depends on the cab and song more than anything else. I used to hate condensers in general for electric guitar but now I only use a LDC on my 1x12. I find marshall 4x12s just need a 57. But I've gotten good results from fender twins using a spaced pair of SDCs the other side of the room. So I don't think there's a silver bullet.

In less than ideal room conditions, I'm finding the directional properties of
these dynamics to be much easier to work with,
especially at band level volumes.

It's already enough hassle having to shut down everything when
using a sensitive condenser mic for vocals and acoustic tracks.

I'm actually tickled to be getting this level of quality without needing
noise gating or other noise reduction.

I'm also tracking 64 bit in Logic Pro, so this is just getting my feet wet
with a working, powerful system.

If you need 2
Mics to record a guitar, something is wrong. The right player, right placement, is all you need. 2 mics is always an issue no
Matter what you use it do.

Um.. as much as I like to use only one mic, that is not always the case.. Sometimes you have the right player and the right mic, but maybe the amp isn't cutting it or depending on the room your in or the recording conditions.. never say never..

There are no steadfast rules other than avoiding phase cancellation, but everything else is just mad science and experimentation.

At the same time, I can't help but wonder how many billable hours and how much signal chain money people have
spent trying to make an inferior amp or inferior speakers sound good.
Capturing a great sound starts with the sound source.

Cool thread. I don't know how some of you guys mic a cab with 4 mics. That's nuts! Phase hell! I've tried 3 but never 4. I find out that for me it's nice to bring them up and see what sounds best for the song sonically. And 9 times out of ten when I had 3 mics up I ended up using one mic and blending a tiny tiny bit of the other two with the main mic, but all recording one signal so I didnt have to deal with it later. These days I'm using maybe 2 on a cab.

57's on AC30's always win. And Old 421's love old Fenders. Then usually I'll add a ribbon, a U87 or maybe an EV.

CAD Equitek e200 and an old 421. Used a Marshall DSL100, Gibson LP and a Fender stratt. All in all, great combinations.
Tried an SM7 before the 421 but it was sounding too thin for this guitar sound. I do love that mic tho, mostly on metal vocals.

I did a test run with the new 57 trying out the OD channel clean to rage.

I'm still not very good at pre setting the input signal into Logic
for maximum volume and clarity without clipping.

I've missed something in the I/O setups because the audio is all tracking hard right.
Pans are all set to Zero.

I'm coming in on input #2 from my Project Mix, set input and output to stereo channel 1&2

What I want is dual mono equal L&R .

Aha! Pilot pre flight error!

Those small circles at the bottom of the I/O channels were set wrong.

I usually set up 3 or 4 mics on a cabinet, but will only use one at a time. I find it's better to have them always set up, so if a guitarist switches between distorted and clean settings, or rhythm and lead playing, I don't have to disrupt the session by moving mics or changing them. I can just hit a switch or click the mouse and we are ready to go. Also gives the mixer more options.

Well, did this in one mono track, just a sound check test

Going from clean to mean just on the guitar volume knob.
The amp stays in the OD channel the whole time.
A bit of noise switching pickup positions.

You can see from the actual amp settings, all kinds of room to spare
on gain, volume, tone.

"Americana" session today.

Gibson ES150 (ca.'52) -> Roland tape delay -> Fender Vibro-Champ -> T-Bone RB500 (gutted) -> API 512

The Roland Cube was fed from the (piezo?) pickup in a Gibson acoustic.
RB500 -> API512 as well.
The gtr. itself went Brauner Phanthera -> Manley Voxbox

Recent crazy guitar setup.

SM7 on Peavey Deuce
PR30 on 8x10
PR40 on 2x15
414 laying on a table about 5 feet in front of the amps

Both bass cabs were powered by the SVT preamp and a power amp.

Sorry for the iphone picture.

A little bit of speaker/cabinet research before starting to record an albums worth of guitars. Oversize 4x12 cab contains a Private Jack, two V30:s and a Seventy80. Mesa 1x12 cabs ended up with their original EVM12Ls and the DIY 1x12 on top of the Marshall cab got a Texas Heat speaker. In the Marshall cab there's a G12H30 anniversary and ... don't remember what, something crappy
