TC electronic BG250 or BG500

Hi,

I will purchase a bass combo for rehearsing and small gigs shortly. I´ve been playing with an ampeg BA115, 100 W, but the drummer is really loud and neither he nor me can hear the bass clearly.

In the store they plugged me into the TC electronic BG500 and I quite liked it, but IMO 500 W is too much for small gigs, and also weights like 32 kg. They told me 500 is definitely not too much and if I buy less than 500 W I would have to add more power soon.

They did not tell me about the TC electronic BG250, which looks ideal. 250 W, and 16 Kg. Will it cut through in small gigs without PA support or do I really need to go 500 W? Being used to 100 W I guess an extra 150 W is what I need, also at 16 kg is so light, very important.

Opinions? Owners' experience?

I had the BH 500 with the 410 cab, I loved that thing. sounded great. But gear lust got the best of me and I sold it to help fund a Ampeg SVT classic. I still have the TC bc410 cab. I say go for it, TC makes a great bass amp. Later on grab the tech 21 svt pedal, it goes great with the TC bass amp!

Thanks. So you would definitely go for the BG250, right? It's 1x15 speaker. Will it cut through loud drummer/wall of guitars?

not sure about that...I had 500 watts and a 4x10 and barely had to turn it up, so I think you should be fine, but dont take my word for it

I'm sure you've already bought an amp, but I recently used the BG250 at a gig and it had more than enough power to cut through drums and guitar, and our drummer does not play lightly.

I have BG250/15 and I love it. Yes, its plastic and digital and toy, but it's lightweight and loud (well, loud enough). I play with compressor for 30 years (boss cs-2) and I also like compressor in BG250 (that white knob ) - it feels very good and makes it much louder
I play precision with flats and I've disconnected that funny tweeter.
