I've been slowly building a reverb pedal collection since starting this thread. I currently have:

- Boss RV-3 (I've had this since 1994 or so)
- Line 6 Verbzilla (bought in early 2000s, haven't used much)
- Catalinbread Topanga
- Neunaber Wet
- Strymon Big Sky
- Strymon El Capistan (it has a spring option that I rarely use)
- Eventide Space

So...what is this collection missing, pedal wise? I have plenty of rack stuff as well, but I like to keep up to date with what the kids nowadays are using.

Also, what are people's favorite / least favorite algorithms, for pedals where this applies? I'm currently liking the Space Blackhole, and the Bloom & Cloud algorithms on the Big Sky.

Nice! I've been thinking about huntin' me down a Supermoon Chrome.

I had the Holy Grail and Holy Grail Cathedral from Electro-Harmonix before I bought my current amp, Lonestar Special from Mesa, which has an amazing spring reverb built in.

Both pedals are good for classic reverb tones. The Cathedral was more versatile, but ultimately got taken off my board.

the Holy Grail was definitely popular and had a good reputation about 8 years back.

Neunaber Seraphim (best shimmer in a pedal, imo)
Digitech Hardwire Supernatural (Plate and Spring are just gorgeous)
Red Panda Context (Plate, Hall, Cathedral)

2 of these pedals (Neunaber, Red Panda) use the same Spin Semiconductor FV-1 DSP that I used for the Z-DSP stuff. Interesting.

It looks like Neunaber is releasing a new pedal, with more controls and programs:

Mr. Black seems to have quite the empire going on down in Portland! Not only does he have his own pedal line, but he has designed the DSP algorithms for some of the Catalinbread pedals.

The Mr. Black pedals and the Catalinbread digital pedals both use the Spin Semi FV-1 DSP. This is a more popular DSP than I first thought.

Also a huge fan of the Van Amps Sole-Mate

I got one to use on a Matchless Phoenix 35 but have started using it on my older Fenders as well which I never thought would happen
It tightens things up and give s a really nice sheen even when bypassed

Plus I'm a sucker for anything that lets you have custom finishes

Grab the Boss RV-5 purely for the modulated reverb. It's hugely popular and there's a lot of debate about the actual signal path and why nothing else sounds quite like it. Have a gander at this thread.

I'll take a listen to the RV-5 the next time I'm in a music store. I gotta admit, modulated reverbs is something I'm kinda snobby about, and the RV-5 reverb didn't knock me out when I heard it in the past. I think that the thoughts about the modulated reverb being post-processed by a chorus might be correct. It also sounds like the modulation is embedded within the reverb, but right in front of the outputs. This will produce a more obvious vibrato sound, versus having the modulation further away from the outputs.

EDIT: Listened to a few YouTube vids of the RV-5 Modulated mode. It sounds better than I remember. I will check this out soon.

The RV-3 hit its peak love on forums when Radiohead released The Bends and OK Computer. Now the prices of that have gone up, the RV-5 has slipped along and it's probably the most consistently mentioned reverb pedal I've seen arond the forums. RV-5 and a PS-3, lots of fun...

I have high hopes for this one in the future.

Any pedals worthy of mix or post-preamp duty? Unorthodox, I know, but still...

I like to add reverb up front when tracking something like drums to tape, and am thinking of getting a PCM70, but if a pedal can do it, why not?

The Boss RV-2 seems to be a long forgotten gem. It does the vintage digital reverb thing and the long dark swimming verbs like no other pedal. You could tweak the Yamaha Magicstomp to get very similar verbs but I think that unit was designed to get some of the older Yami verb tones. It was a stomp version of their rack unit that had some "way back" mojo for people that loved their earlier lower bit rack stuff.

That stuff is king for me for that shoegaze/retro-noir lush verbs in stomp formats. I would be happy with a recapped RV-2 and a Boss FRV-1 '63 for the spring stuff next to each other on my pedal board for sure. Edit: add a great plate & hall emu pedal or all three into one and I'd be set.

Everything else is just too clean and literally sounds too digitally produced, aka slick imho for live work. ymmv

Eventide H9 has some nice verbs.

Yeah, I was thinking about the Space or the H9. Problem is, for the money, might as well get a classic rack unit like the PCM70. I just picked up a used Yamaha REV5 to play with, so we'll see how that goes when it gets here.

Talking of forgotten gems .. the Logidy Epsi doesn't seem to get much attention, but I think i'm going to buy one ... convolution of any IR impulse of an SD card ... seems amazing ...

The Catalinbread Talisman based on a EMT 140 is pretty wicked.

I like the clean sound of the Eventide Space.
The small room algorithm is a favourite as is the slapback.
Yes, very realistic with a recognisable sound. Works well in the studio.

The guitar-player of my band agrees (haven't heard it myself yet).

I am using 2 Reverb pedals. You can never have enough of them
I use the Digitech RV-7 which is always on (depending on the location) for little fattening of the sound.
But I also have the Walrus Audio Descent which is awesome. I use this pedal for some crazy ambient reverbs and shimmer sounds.
I really enjoy having both on the board.

For SW it's Eventide Blackhole.

The RV-6, Neunaber Immense, and the new MXR are pretty awesome.

I have had a Blue Sky,Big Sky & a Flint. Before you settle on one - please check out a Flint. Only pedal I have ever regretted selling. The other 2 "Bigger" models have way more options, but there was surely something about the Flint that was extra special (in the Reverb dept). Along with it have the second Vib/Trem function which was very good.
The Reverb pedal I kept though, was a Keeley 2Ms pedal. The Abbey Mode Reverb is the finest sounding Reverb. Along with it's other functions it is like 2/3 pedals in one. Very nice pedal !

I loved the RRR. Great sounding reverbs. But, my favorite patch was the rotating speaker.
