Cheapest clean pedal as DI\level gain for straight to line bass recording?

I haven't found similar threads.
I have an old Eastern-European Kolorton bass with new LaBella DTB FS760 flatwounds. I completely satisfied with the tone of it recording it straight to AD, but I need impedance matching device (for which DI-box is used) and a bit of gain to lower the noisy soundcard gain.
I was told that an active DI will do this, but decent DIs are more exensive than a cheap pedal which should fix the impedance issues and amplify the signal a bit too, so I thought I can use a pedal as DI, can't I?
I do not need any FX, just impedance matching and a little bit of clean gain on a tiny budget like $50.
are there any cheap transparent in bypass (no lowbass-cut\distortion) pedal which will work for the task, or are there any other budget solutions?

depends what you plug it into really. If you have a basic soundcard that has a DI included, you can plug pedals straight into it no prob.
