Speakon cables, just what are they? Any better than regular speaker cables?

Speakon is a 4-pole connector by Neutrik. the connector locks in place. very nice for large power cables.

No difference to regular, just standard 2-core speaker cable attached to 2 of the lugs on the locking assembly. (As per post above, "speakon" is the connector)

Great idea, but more chance of the entire rig toppling, head plus cab when the clumsy oaf of a roadie trips over your carefully tucked-away speaker cable heh

Actually, Speakon is a trade name of Neutrik, who developed the "SPEAKON"connector, one that can carry high current in a small profile.

But IT IS NOT FOR MAINS USE.

You can get 2 pole panel mount Speakon females, same size as D XLR connectors." The cord plugs are more bulky, but you can get slimmer 2 pole version from Neutrik too.

Take caution with non-road-tested imitations!

Typical uses for NL4 (Speakon) are running biamped 2-way boxes. Lows on Pins 1+ and 1-, and Highs on 2+ and 2-.

NL8 connectors are the same, except are larger have 8 contacts for carrying speaker level signal from 4 amps (subs, low mid, high mid, high) to 3 way enclosures which loop out to subs.

Thanks guy's! Currently, the Ampeg Bass rig I have in my studio has these "Speakon" connectors. So I bought a new cable online for it.
