Vintage AC30

I love the sound of the AC30, but I don't know much about the history and worth of the old stuff. I did some searches on google, but wikopedia just didn't tell me the stuff I wanted to know.

When were the really coveted models made? Was it before Jennings sold the company in 196(5?)? How can I distinguish the good ones from the bad ones? (other than by my ear haha!)

the one you want will say JMI on the panel.

From what I've read, 1964 Top Boost is the winner, but they do have quality control
issues and their enclosure design didn't really provide enough ventilation, so they
ran kinda hot.

For the better part, they are great for a studio, but I wouldn't bet my life on one
for touring unless you can afford to have it gone over completely.

I would try to find a used Divided By 13 ERT33 if you can pry one from their cold dead fingers.

i would never recommend buying a 40+ amp sight unseen.
especially an AC30.
when i was shopping around for one they all sounded different.
most weren't that great because they are usually in varying states of decay.
with that being said they usually snap up rather nicely if
you bring them to somebody that is well versed in them.
bob at amphole is great with AC30's.
but it isn't cheap but its worth every dime.
