My point is that Sister Rosetta was an "early adopter" of the SG, and was WAY ahead of her time in many other respects as well.

I do not wish to (in any way) detract from Brittany Howard's honor, but at the same time let's not forget that Brittany was born 15 years AFTER Sister Rosetta died!

...So I think props are in order.

I just picked up this 2017 Les Paul Custom this morning from a local guy I found on Reverb. Cost $3300.. no tax, no shipping.. just a cash in hand transaction.

This will be my first Gibson.

Finally getting around to posting some photos.

First pic shows my 4 LP's.

From left to right in the pic:
  • My latest build which is 59 spec, but I slimmed the neck down to about .78 and is asymmetrical. Goal was to recreate the feel of my favorite 80s Charvel/Jackson Model 6's. 1 Piece Mahogany body and neck. Quilted maple top and fretboard, burl maple veneer on the headstock. Active EMG "Het Set" for pickups.
  • 2017 Les Paul Custom flame maple wine red 490/498
  • 1988 Les Paul Custom with Bill Lawrence "circuit board" pickups
  • My first build - Pretty "cheap" kit with TonePro's TOM, Bustbucker Pros

Some detailed shots of the fist one that I'm still putting the finishing touches on, plus a gratuitous shot of the the Japanese shredders at the end.

Hope everyone's doing well!

Greg

Finally got around to taking a pic and posting it up.

Love this guitar. Might not be a “real” Les Paul, but it sounds great, and plays real nice, so .. yeah.

L-R: One of a kind CR4 Custom Historic. Black front, red back, 1980 Standard (My first LP), 1972 Custom and a 1958 Les Paul Standard
Front Row is a Godsmack Les Paul that came with black neck binding so I added body binding myself, put in an old Super Distortion and did a relic'd goldtop finish on it.

I haven't played electric in about 6 months.
(Not since I got addicted to a nice nylon-string acoustic.)
...But since I really don't have a whole lot to do these days, I kinda got an itch to pull out my old LPMM (this one):
I pulled it out of the gig bag, put the strap over my shoulder, plugged it in, and hit an A chord.

To my absolute amazement, it was still in fabulous tune!!!

I just could not believe it!

I've had a few pass through my hands over the years, but the only one thats stayed is a '77 LP Standard. Plays great after I ditched the wide-flat frets.

1993 “Sunburst”

1993 Les Paul Classic. I did the “artwork” with Magic Marker and food coloring in 1994. It gets a lot of attention when I play it out. It’s got early eighties Super Distortions in it and plays great.

Here's my Agile les pauls. They may not look like much but they are pretty great guitars.

The spalted maple top one has Seth Lover humbuckers and the junior one has Mojotone Quiet Coil P-90s, both have paper in oil tone caps.

The AD-201 (junior) gets played a lot more by me, but the AL-3100 ("Custom") is a beast. The AL-3100 taught me that I'm not a les paul player. I'm certainly a humbucker person, but not so much a les paul person. It's fun to rawk out though once in a while, I just don't like the way they feel. I record with it sometimes, because of the sound.

The AD-201 (junior) was my main guitar for about a year, suits me much more than the fat boy one. I like the shape of it more, and I like the P-90s. That guitar can be polite or downright rude depending how you play it. It's incredibly dynamic and has a lot of touch response.

And the most important part, of course, are the Bob Marley guitar straps! :-D
