Pretty neat hey ?
So Rode is making a Soundfield mic now? They're cool, but not exactly a "new" idea - Soundfields have been for at least 15-20 years, and if I'm not mistaken, much longer. I seem to recall hearing about them as far back as the mid '80s. Back then they were very rare and horrifically expensive. By 10 years ago they were somewhat more common and merely costly.

EDIT: HERE'S a link to a page with more info.

What Rode appears to have done is reduced the device from a rather bulky thing that required a heavy stand to a much smaller unit that can be mounted on a video camera and probably reduced in price to something relatively "affordable" (meaning in the low thousands instead of tens of thousands of dollars). The question is what does it sound like? Not all Rode mics are well regarded, sonically.

We shall see, it's not available yet.

Holy instant thread diversion Batman !

Yes, Rode bought out Soundfield in 2016, and are now incorporating and extending that technology for video and VR purposes....

Now, about that guitar featured from 1:09 to 3:33 ?

Meh.

Those two little speakers won't compete very well with a drummer.

It looks like maybe a fun toy for home hobbyists in apartments, and could be cool for busking if the the surrounding traffic isn't too loud.

It also looks like a great way to run the battery in your phone.

Didn't seem to sound too bad, but you can never really tell with web videos.

Nice color.
