Martin D200

The folks at Martin needed a way to make a new D28 seem like less of an extravagance. So they came up with THIS.

The reviews are magnificent.

Unfortunately no... it's real. Sweetwater has one too. The inlay work is phenomenal but I could never see myself ever spending $120K on a guitar... I don't care of Jesus himself played it in a concert to Moses, Jimi Hendrix, Ghandi and Mother Teresa. Still way too much.

I don't have any problem with it. I remember they made another guitar with a similar price tag about 10 years ago.

These types of things are meant to generate free press and also to show exactly how far they can go. If they sell none of them they go into the company's storage/museum. A lot of times new wood, construction or inlay techniques are used on these that may or may not make it into production models at some time in the future.

I think it's cool to see. I wouldn't buy it, but I remember those Fender Custom Shop calendars with a bunch of weird stuff I wouldn't buy either.

Quentin Tarantino should pay list price for one. And then let Martin rent it back from him.

How can all that inlay around the top NOT impede the tone and volume?

Who cares? It's a guitar for looking at. Not a guitar for playing.

If I spend over 100 grand for a guitar it had better sing like a choir of angels. If I spend that much for a wall hanging it had better be signed by Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, or the like and authenticated.

Assuming I had that much money to blow, of course.

Looking at ? EWUUUUH! That is just fugly.

Why didn't they carefully inlay a top re-creating an outhouse door or a child's drawing of a guitar while they were at it?

And if they sell one of them, well, they've made their nut for the month!

(Reminds me of a cartoon I saw somewhere -- probably the New Yorker magazine -- a million years ago: Two folks are standing in an empty banquet hall under a huge banner which reads "Fundraiser, $1,000,000/plate dinner, tonight!"
and one of the people is saying "We really only needed to sell one plate.")

FWIW I agree. Not to mention it just may be the ugliest guitar I've ever seen.

That has to be the ugliest instrument I've ever seen. I'll stick with my 1939 D18.

Well, it comes with a watch. That's not good enough?

Er, no. If I want to buy a watch, I'll buy a watch, not a guitar.

There is money out there. Someone will buy it. It will hang on a wall somewhere. More power to ya if you can afford it.
