Early 40's??? Yikes, it going to get worse? I'm in my early 30's and I don't go in many public places without ear pugs. Too many years of a Marshall in one ear and loud rock drummers in the other.

As a success story, to stay on topic. Just being careful helps. And daily quiet (really, really quiet) time helps.

I never had much luck with the white noise treatments myself.
