There are acoustical paints and trowel on coatings. It is a shame the outer layer of the wood has become more reflective. Some paints will really reflect especially some of the harder lacquer/alcohol types - enamels are generally not as hard until they dry out. (my friend painted his car with helicopter paint and that was very flexible and looked nice - like always waxed) Going back on topic - your paint probably sealed off the porous nature of the older word. Suggestion? can you turn the boards around and either whitewash them with paint pigment - more of a dry chalk? Gymnastic chalk? (or stain without sealer in it) I think blackboard paint will still give you too much reflection - it is hard (fills pore) / the surface is just rougher.There are many paints in the fine arts world.
