RADIAL SB-1 Active

This is one of a new line of compact DI boxes by radial consisting of passive and active designs (including one specialised for piezo impedance). The Sb-1 is the active design with a 220kOhm input impedance.

Build Quality
A solid box of sheet steel construction, good quality connectors and solid feeling latching push switches.

Features
Input and through (marked tuner) 1/4" Jack sockets and the pad button are provided on one end of the unit, with the xlr output and polarity invert button (marked phase) on the other. The ground lift switch is located on the side and is recessed into the body and will need a screwdriver or small implement to access the switch. The connections and switches on this box feel solid and seem like they will stand up to some rough treatment.

Sound Quality
I've been using this box with passive inputs (passive bass, acoustic guitar etc.) i've found it to sound very clear and full. Equally as good as the BSS or KT DI boxes I've been using. Keyboard or other line level active inputs can be a little hot (as would be expected) but there is the -15dB pad provided.

NB. radial makes a passive version (sb-2) more suited to higher level inputs.

Issues
My only gripes with this unit are that the ground lift switch should be more easy to access, and the input/though jack sockets are a little close together.

Summary
A great little DI Box that sounds great and is very well built at an affordable price point.
