Sennheiser E945 by Jettison
This mic rules for live rock vox.
Put it up next to an SM58 and try the 58 first. Then try the 945 and listen to the mud disappear. You will hear a big difference. You'll hear detail at last.
The 945 will cut the vocals through your live mix with ease.
Quite bright enough without being sibilant or thin at all. Little or no EQ needed. The high end just has a sweetness that is very satisfying and present.
Built very tough for the stage with internal shock mount t'boot.
Humbucking coil and supercardioid pattern keep things quiet.
No switches to fuss with. Just plug it in and you're good to go.
Same goes for the studio too. Although, I'll bet most people here have their favorite LDCs for tracking.
I hate to abuse an Albini euphemism, but the following seems apt...
...If the SM58 were a microphone, it would be an e945.
Well worth $219, and it will withstand some very hard abuse.
