AKG D3600 by Beachmountain
This mic is one of AKG:s patented two-way designs, fitted with an 80Hz switchable HP filter and integrated stand adapter.
Very flat frequency response, cardioid pattern.
This design virtually eliminates proximity effect, opening the door to a world of experimentation.
Large and bulky, it needs a heavy stand.
I´ve successfully used this on zither, brass and woodwind, kick drum, percussion, upright bass, hihat (yes!) grand piano, strings and just about eveything imaginable.
The lack of proximity effect enables extreme closemicing without the usual boominess. Withstands >150dB:s.
Weakness: the HP switch needs occasional juggling and spray, oxide buildup can make for heavy distortion like if the mic broke down. It usually has not.
Bottom line, is it any good? I own four of them, I am not selling.
