Daking Audio Fet III by John Eppstein
THIS IS A GREAT COMPRESSOR!
I really hate using the word "transparent" because it's so overused, but here it's entirely appropriate. This compressor doesn't make its presence obvious - unless you want it to.
This compressor sounds great on everything. I originally bought it for use on the 2-buss on the advice of a very well known engineer whose advice I respect greatly, but its uses go well beyond that. Bass, guitars, drums, vocals, you name it. As an FET design it is capable of being very fast, but unlike some FET comps it doesn't crud up your sound at high speeds.
The detector stages feature adjustable high pass filters so you can eliminate unwanted triggering due to low frequency information.
"Variable linking between channels is envisioned for use when compressing two different tracks, such as bass and kick, to tie limiter action together to greater or lesser degrees. The Stereo Link is continuously variable from 0 to ?." Stereo linking uses audio summing, not control voltage summing for greater accuracy.
All controls are high quality pots except the ratio switches.
Meters switchable between input, gain reduction, and output.
Outboard power supply for low hum and noise. This box is QUIET!
Channels are fully independent (except when linked, of course.)
If you could only have one quality compressor, this would be a great choice.
