AKG D880
This is a bit like a Beta58 it has a frequency range of 20 to 20,000 Hz so it can pick up the finest details, it has a bit of a condenser sound to it, and can make an acoustic guitar or vocal really shine, far superior to a SM58 or 57. And brighter and cleaner than an SM7
Its just amazing on a guitar amp, and can take anything you through at it, getting the mic positioned is interesting as it as quite a wide field so a tiny bit off axes doesn’t make much of a difference.
In a live setting it has amazing feedback rejection, and this is why I got it. It fits nicely the hand and has a rubberized feel to it.
Plosives on the pop shield are not as good as a shure mic, The sweet spot on this mic is about 3-4 inches unlike 1-3 in an SM58. Seems strong and have used mine for years!
A great little vocal mic that no one knows about and awesome studio instrument microphone. And a bit of secret weapon, as you can pick these up on ebay for almost nothing!
Beats anything in its class.
