ICON QCon Pro G2 by chazroot
We just purchased an Icon QCon Pro G2 to replace our old Presonus FaderPort Classic that finally died after years of service at our studio. We read the sales literature and watched the videos. This unit was advertised to work with all DAWs. Even Reaper.
Well, that's not exactly true. We tested the unit on a brand new, maxed out, 2019 iMac with the current versions of OS X, Reaper, and Logic Pro X installed. It does not work out of the box.
We opened a support ticket directly with Icon Pro Audio. We never heard back from them so we reached out to MixWare, their US distributor.
MixWare advised us to install Windows dll files on our Mac to fix the problem. Wait, what? Really? Then they advised us to download the third-party DrivenByMoss scripts.
Mr. Moßgraber's "DrivenByMoss4Reaper" appears to be coded for the Icon QCon Pro X, not the Pro G2 that we purchased. We reminded MixWare of this and they said to do it anyway because it will work.
It does not.
This is not a critique of Mr. Moßgraber's very fine work. He is attempting to fill a gap left wide open by the manufacturer.
It is, however, a warning to consumers about Icon Pro Audio. Their sales literature and product ads contain false advertising.
They are knowingly selling a product that does not do what they claim. They do not support their products, do not respond to customer support requests, and their US distributor is grasping at straws in the dark.
We would LOVE to have this unit operate properly. The hardware build quality is nice, but the drivers, libraries, and software side are a trainwreck.
We would be interested in knowing if Mr. Moßgraber has any plans to include configurations for the Icon QCon Pro G2 in his software.
