Roland TD-17 by Ray Weston
The unveiling of the new Roland drum sets and TD-17 sound module at their HQ in Los Angeles was a very inviting event with all Roland techs onboard giving their passionate knowledge about the new technology.
They had many demo drums available for all to try and explore, with demonstrations as well as more importantly, lunch, dinner and refreshments!
The TD-17 series comes with four kits: TD-17 KVX, TD-17 KV, TD-17 KV-L and TD-17 K-L.
The TD-17 module now has user sample imports.
You can load your own samples via SD card that becomes onboard sounds. Then layer your own samples with the onboard samples - even after they’re loaded onto the module.
You can change just about everything ie, tuning, drum size, muffling etc.. and get customised expressive sounds.
The sound engine of the TD-17 has the DNA of the TD50.
I particularly liked the Bluetooth pairing - allowing you to midi and do audio data. No cables needed! You just put your phone on it. And it has a holder!
Overall the TD-17 series is a step forward in Roland’s technology assisting modern drummers be more creative with exploring new sound possibilities.
I give it 10/10
