Signal Art Electronics U47 by warose
I've got this beautiful from Signal Art Elec. as a custom order.
The general capsule was K47 which's manufactured from Australia.
Mine came with Dany Bouchard's D7 which's based on original M7 capsule.
You can ask for it with extra $300 (maybe more now?) if you need.
The circuit was based on Dany's version, but Chad(owner of SAE) added his own design.
There are two popular circuits of U47 clone.
This one is dual 408a version.
I've been read a lot of threads that the self noise of 408a is louder than EF800.
That's right for sure, especially on omni mode, but it won't be a problem because I usually use cardioid.
But to be honest, it really annoyed me when I warmed it up for the first time.
(BTW, I used BAE 1073MPL as mic preamp)
For this reason, I've asked Chad for recommendation.
Chad is a really nice guy.
He told me some tricks to solve problems which may came from shipping.
But unfortunately, the noise was still there.
Recently, I have a vocal session which not fitted C12(another clone, made by myself).
So, I decided to give it a chance.
After the first take, I've to say -
It's absolutely incredible, the sound is so creamy as silk and blow the C12 away in this case.
Most important of all, I feel the noise no more.
Of course it's still there, but completely different and much lower than before.
(as normal as my others)
I believed the problem was mic preamp, because I chose Forssell SMP-500 instead of BAE.
The interruption might come from the output transformer.
(I've tried CAPI VP28 which worked as good as Forssell, so.... maybe just on BAE lol)
Even so, I still highly recommend this replica.
It's a common problem between mic and preamp.
In addition to EF800 (Stam Audio), here is another choice.
