Steinberg Cubase Pro 9.5

I have been using cubase since the VST days. Lot have happen during this years.

What I like is the basic setup, but it is nowdays similar on all competitors.

Steinberg is the inventor of VST plugin-format. They are the reference, good or bad.

Cons. They have more or less dropped support of hardware controllers. The list of "supported" controllers are long, but they are not supported steinberg does not add their new functions to them. They have added some neat mixer stuff in the last 3-4 releases, none of the features have been added to their "supported" hardware. Not even the yamaha/steinberg branded gear. If you need hardware access to new features you need to buy their Nuage system that start at US$20000.
They also have broken some of the more advance transport functions since version 8. If you ask their support about it you get a reply after a month about that you get lost. (There is nothing in their documents describing this changes)

Summary: Well if you know your cubase it might be useful to upgrade, but expect hardware support to be broken. (From 8-9, so 9.5.10 is broken) If you dont know exactly why you need cubase you probably should go elsewhere. If yamaha is not putting a lot of money on to steinberg they will follow Cakewalk in to the history.
