Lewitt LCT 440 PURE

4.75 4.75 out of 5, based on 1 Review

I was positively surprised by this microphone from the Austrian company Lewitt. If you are looking for a good sounding affordable LDC and don't need shenanigans like a low cut or a pad, you should definitely try this one.

Lewitt LCT 440 PURE

After a befriended engineer recommended them in high praise, I got myself a pair of Lewitt LCT 440 PURE’s. At first, I was a little sceptic, not expecting much from them, given the low price (payed around 260 Euros per piece), but what a pleasant surprise. They are awesome! I mostly use them as room mics when recording drums. Close to the floor, about 1,5 to 2m away from the kit, spaced to taste. Depending on how direct I want it to sound, I will either let them face the wall or the kit. I think they would also work well as overheads, but I have my trusted pair of Schoeps and I don’t think, they will ever be replaced. So far, I also tried the 440 PURE on female vocals, male voiceover, acoustic guitar and some Foley stuff. With impressive results.
They are definitely on the bright side, but not in an offending way. More like crisp, with an expensive airy sheen, creating a larger than life image.
For Voiceover, I wanted something a little duller, so I just turned the microphone a bit to the side and put the windscreen on. Talking into it off axis helps to warm it up a little without losing details.

The 440 PURE does not have any buttons or switches, so what you see is what you get. And in my opinion, you get a lot. The Mic itself feels very sturdy and has a good weight to it. Company name and model type, are printed black on black, which gives it a very minimalistic and elegant look. Also included is a very nice shock mount, a cleverly designed pop filter, that attaches directly to the shock mount with magnets, a windscreen and a bag.
