Blackstar Series One 50

Had been shopping for a really good sounding, versatile, 50W, 2-channel, all-tube head for years and finally settled on this one. Have not been disappointed. I use this with one 4x12 (Jackson, red Eminence spkrs), two 4x12s (Jackson, reds), or a 2x12 cab (Celestion lead 80s) depending on where I'm at. It sounds tasty in any configuration. Has a very wide range of tones, full bottom, creamy/punchy/cutting mids and as much presence and clarity as you want. Channel switching is nice and quiet, especially compared to other shall we say highly oversold brands. Two nice adders on this unit are: 1) the switchable impedance on the speaker outs (4, 8 & 16 ohms), but most importantly 2) the POWER pot on the front to dial in from 5W to 50W. Yeah baby, now youre talking versatile. Its basically a variable power brake, so you can adjust the volume your overdrive sweet spot is at- not to mention get great distortion/tube break-up if you need it without waking the neighbors. Quiet operation for clean recording, plus exceptional tone. Played it light and heavy, drove it hard, and so far (2 years on) rock solid. Using it for fusion, metal, hard rock and blues. Pleased on all fronts. Travels well. Looks like it means business, and it does.
