Available in a variety of formats. Half track, quarter track, 3.75/7.5ips, 7.5ips/15ips. Built like a tank. The low speed versions offer NAB recording versions with both NAB and IEC playback settings. The high speed versions offer either NAB or IEC record/playback only. S/N ranges from 62db for low speed nab and 68db for high speed iec. Noise reduction is pretty much not needed at high speed although a DBX Type II unit can increase the S/N level 10-20db for almost digital quiet levels.

I/O is unbalanced rca -10dbv.

You can run this machine pretty hot if you choose to add lots magnetic tape saturation to your mixes. Or run it at nominal levels for extremely clean masters. The 1/4" 1/2 track format @ 15ips is perfect for taking masters to a mastering facility. You can concentrate on making great un-hypercompressed great sounding analog mixes and let the mastering engineer ruin them for CD and MP3 consumption.

Because they are 40+ years old, they are very much user serviceable. Recapping is pretty easy. All through hole components and no IC Chips. They still are modular machines so things that go wrong are easy to fix.

Heads can be found and won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Revox A77s can be had on eBay and other auction/on-line sites from $200 for a fixer-up-er to about $800 for one in perfect shape.
