Simply put, the best piano ever made.

The instrument that has made careers for centuries.

The Neumann U 47 is the Steinway D of microphones, not the other way around.

The Neve 1073 is the Steinway D of preamps/EQ's, not the other way around.

The bang for buck depends where you buy it and depends which piano are you getting. If it is not well mantained or weared out then it is more an expensive object for decoration rather of serious use. For the ones that I hace played before, they are much easier to maneuver than the model B ones. Ds are made for concert, while B is made for practice. And Ds usually don't fit in your home except if you have a huge mansion or something. For practice I recommend B, but if you are very mature and have very good ear (or already en experienced expert or professional), you can consider getting the D, if you can afford it. Note that people at this level a model B is still enough for them.

Of course, if you can and you really want to, live the dream, but B is enough.
