Thumbs up Kings College Choir Lessons and Carols promo video

I don’t recall a dissection of the techniques and gear used by the BBC to capture and broadcast Lessons and Carols. As most of my live work is similar, I was pleased to see their recent promo video.

I’m most curious about the congregation capture. At one point there appears a tree at the rear of the nave. Previously someone in this forum suggested that the BBC used 414’s (pattern?) throughout the nave.

The radio TX is live , the TV version is a pre record and sounds different imho.

I prefer candle lit festivals where the singing boys and men enter from different ends of the nave

Very etherial on a frosty night in an ancient town with a good pub round the corner.

I would like to see a documentary on how the BBC records and broadcast this event. The video in the link is more about the choir. FWIW

Maybe not this event in particular, but certainly the Beeb in action:

Very much this!

The radio version is broadcast live 'on the day'. This year's TV broadcast has most likely been filmed already - I was never at King's but many of my contemporaries have been choristers in these broadcasts and the methods used for each different broadcast is different.

In the prefilmed broadcast you see little to no microphone spots and the sound is worse for it (but the video more than makes up for it I believe) and for the radio broadcast there is no real problem with having mics placed exactly where needed.
